Saving the girl, when does it matter? (NaLu)
There’s a point that the LuNa/NaLu blog had been trying to make abundantly clear for a while…
When it comes to bonds that develop organically, “saving the girl” doesn’t mean she owes her savior a relationship. True chemistry doesn’t occur because of favors done. A well-written relationship is nourished by engaging and meaningful moments that allow the characters to strengthen the bonds that unite them.
However, a “romantic rescue” is, in fact, a story-telling tool. But not every “rescue” scene has romantic undertones. And jumping from “you saved me” to “I want your

The Problem with FT Crack Pairings (2019 Redux)
Hello to all.
So I had recently been reading through some of my earlier material, in particular, the very first anti-GrayLu rant I composed all the way back in 2014. Back then, I was new to this whole ranting thing and I wasn't entirely confident in my ability to write anything coherent. But as anyone knows, it does get a lot easier on subsequent attempts, and that first rant was well received. To celebrate the 5 year anniversary of that rant, I figured that I might as well do a remix of said rant, this time featuring Natsu and Lucy themselves.
This piece is dedicated to ~Warlordgab (https://www.deviantart.com/warlordgab), a longtime friend of mine who has also composed doze

NaLu Analysis: What's in a response?
Many NaLu fans already pointed out some details such as Natsu burning guys who flirted with Lucy, or Lucy having Natsu rest on her lap. However, there was a detail that may remind some of a few analyses done in this blog…
Juvia, as usual, calls Lucy her “love rival.” While such a gag is meant to make readers laugh, many shippers take Juvia’s words seriously. Needless to say, last chapter shows why such a mindset is not consistent with the story or the characters.
However, the bit that I will highlight is Lucy’s response to Juvia’s claim. The way she reacted is identical to her response during the GMG. Juvi

NaLu: Character's response Vs. Shipping standards
I knew the fact Mashima posted those unfinished NaLu drafts via twitter meant something was coming in chapter 24…
While some NaLu shippers try to make Touka look better than Lucy in ways they don’t even realize, other people prefer to show how NaLu finally got something substantial enough to discuss in a lenghty way. Now, let us see what we got so far:
Most readers could easily see that when Natsu powered up with the help Ignia’s flames, there was a change in his personality; what not everyone realized was Lucy being the first one who noticed.
While the rest of the team was eager to join the fight alongside this monstrou

Short Analysis: Chemistry and NaLu part IV
NaLu shippers often overhype a single smile or edit their way to a post for the sake of pairings with little to no substance in the FT story. Does that mean NaLu lacks credibility or plausability? After all, several of those who claim to support NaLu put crack pairings and impotent relationships in the same pedestal…
That’s not the case. Emotional chemistry is more than a “smile” or good looks. As stated before, this concept is more about the effect or the impact a relationship has on the characters involved. To make it easier to understand, NaLu gives us another example through a meaningful gesture in the “Rainb

Analysis: Chemistry and NaLu part III
If we measure the impact of their moments and the weight of the supporting evidence in their favor, we can see how NaLu stands out as a potent pairing
However, several NaLu shippers still overhype less substantial premises as if those NaLu moments can, at best, lead to Lucy ending up as a partially interested party in their potentially canon relationship, while looking for something else
Implications that don’t convey a positive image for such a bright and lovely character as Lucy, and allow other readers to conclude another girl would be a better match for the dorky Dragon Slayer
But, when analyzing their bonding and their chemistry

Short Analysis: Chemistry and NaLu part II
Just like the previous post, we’re making a contrast between shippers’ definition of “chemistry” or “almost canon,” and what chemistry truly is.
I often mentioned this but many shippers believe that “saving the girl” should result in romance. However, when writing chemistry between characters it should never be implied one character owes the other a relationship because of favors done…
We all know Natsu saved and protected Lucy multiple times throughout the series…
…and even though such moments are not as hyped as similar scenes involving other characters, “saving the gir

Short Analysis: Chemistry and NaLu part I
This going to be a series of short analyses breaking down what is chemistry and how NaLu fits this concept so well that it stands out from other premises
So, what is Emotional Chemistry?
Let us start by explaining what chemistry isn’t. Emotional chemistry is not about having the same interests or some superficial things in common. It’s not about finding someone sexy or attractive. Chemistry is not something that shallow, it’s actually something deeper.
Then, what is chemistry about?
Chemistry is about developing an emotional connection that grows naturally, with the core components of this concept revolving around mutual t
